Our Harvest Monday for June 27th, 2011.

This week our garden is doing very well as far as harvests go. We picked blueberries, patio tomatoes, snap beans, banana peppers and giant marconi green peppers.

The total weight for blueberries picked this week is 0.27 pounds. That's not bad for four small bushes.

The total combined weight for all blueberries picked this year is 1 3/4 pounds. I'm accumulating them in the freezer until I have enough to make blueberry jam.

Our harvest of patio tomatoes was so big it almost broke the scale! Two tomatoes for a total of one ounce! Delicious nonetheless.

The big harvest for this week was the Fortex snap beans. We picked 8 1/2 pounds in one picking. Pressure canner, here we come!

We also got ten beautiful giant marconi green peppers that weighed 1 lb. 5 oz., and seventeen sweet banana peppers that weighed one pound even.

When you combine both types of those peppers with a red bell pepper and some vidalia onions... Mmmm boy! They should make that scent in an aerosol spray!

I'm saving the seeds from the peppers for my supply for next year. I have to clean and dry them so I can store them properly.

Our grapes are turning purple, so it won't be long and they'll be in the harvest talley.

That's it for this week's harvest.

Have a great gardening day!

  2. Nice harvest, Veggie Pak! I like your idea of the veg-flavour aerosol spray. I have heard that some supermarkets use things like that to make their stores smell of coffee and freshly-baked bread, which allegedly puts the customers in a better mood and persuades them to buy more!

  3. Blueberries!!! I am jealous! I have three brand new plants that I have picked the flowers off of to keep from producing this year. I practically had a tear in my eye as I did! Ha ha!

  4. Blueberries are such a delicious treat from the garden. Your green bean harvest is awesome. I have about two weeks before my beans will be ready to produce for us. I am definitely looking forward to it. I have to agree that sliced onions but particularly peppers - are a heavenly scent. The only thing better is the smell of roasted peppers.

  13. Fantastic harvest! How many more berries will you need before you are able to make jam?

Those peppers look yummy. Is the seed saving process for them as removing, cleaning, and drying?

  14. Suzanne, Enchanted Moments, it's an accomplishment getting all those blueberries before the birds do, even with netting. They must like them as much as I do!

Mark Willis, the scent of fresh bread would probably coerce me into buying more groceries.

Shawn Anne, good luck with your blueberry plants! They are worth the extra care you give them.

kitsapFG, blueberries really are a treat! I'll have to try roasting some peppers.

    Allison at Novice Life, Thanks!

Malay-Kadazan girl, it is a wonderful harvest indeed. I just canned those beans yesterday. I went to the garden and checked the bean rows, and they're ready to be picked again!

Barbie, Oh no! Buying green beans! I usually put up enough to easily last a year. Thanks!

Robin, you are so right! Those little tomatoes make a person desperate to take a bite out of a big ripe one.

Daphne, Thanks! The blueberries are great!

gardenvariety-hoosier, those marconi's are wonderful! They produce so well for me that I'm not even going to plant bell peppers next year.

    Emily, thanks for stopping by!

meemsnyc, I'm thankful for the entire harvest thus far. The garden is doing very well.

Prairie Cat, I need about another half a pound for making the jam. I didn't pick them today, so tomorrow I should get a good amount. The seed saving that I am doing is just what you described. These seeds are already a lot cleaner than tomato seeds, so there isn't a big cleanup necessary.

I personally thank each one of you for stopping by and enjoying my blog, and caring to share a comment with me.

    Have a great gardening day!
